Tokketok Letterpress

Friday, 30 July 2010

Beautiful cards by Joke Vande Gaer of Tokketok, from her studio in Portland. The embossed notecards are such a great idea and so beautifully done... mailboxes all over the world would be much happier if everyone owned a set of these.

My favourite though are the 3 colours of wrapping papers... don't those presents look exciting already (even with nothing in them)?

A reel of business cards

While following on the theme of branding and nostalgia, these business cards designed by Croxton Design really made me smile. For production company A Hundred Monkeys they are just perfect. What a treat it would be to be given one of those rafflesque tickets!

Official Manufacturing Co. // Frances May stationery

Thursday, 29 July 2010

francemay-0925
The Official Mfg Co. (took me a moment to decode the name) are responsible for this delightful little collection of stationery. It was designed for a fashion boutique in Portland and the branding was following along with the nostalgic idea of flash cards and library cards (to state the obvious) from schools of yonder years. Simple-y super!

The Working Proof

Wednesday, 28 July 2010

Now this is a great project... Founder of the program, Anna of Sub studio, sent this link across and I was instantly taken by the idea and the quality of the prints. Basically artists submit a print to be sold, choose a charity to which 15% of the money will go and ta daaa. There are some great artists and great prints to be bought here. These are some of my favourites...

Anna-Wili Highfield // Paper sculpture

Friday, 23 July 2010

mr_Barn_Owl_270ct09_idx53800687-1

I was sent Anna-Wili's website by a friend and straight away fell in love with her paper bird sculptures. They look so delicate but in the same way a feathered one does and the birds in flight are so beautifully sculpted they could jump right out from behind the screen!

She is a Sydney based artist working in paper and copper primarily. I asked her how these beautiful paper beings came to life and this was what she said:
I had been to art school and studied painting. After art school I took up sculpture and loved the freedom of not having had too much instruction in the discipline. I started making copper pipe sculptures. I was pregnant with my daughter and wanted to make something special for her. I made a small paper fairy wren. I loved the medium and just began to work with it. Now I use archival cotton paper that I tear and sew together to create the figure of an animal.

There are many more great sculptures on her website... please do check them out! (the copper giraffe is amazing)

Spine love

Thursday, 22 July 2010

Saw this panning 'under construction' website for Peter Mendelson (a book designer)  over on Strangely Beautiful Things this morning. It has given me a whole new appreciation for the humble spine - something that is rarely designed as intently as the cover but probably on view a whole lot more... aren't they colourful little things?! I especially love the black red and white Dostoevsky series...mmm.

Sebastiaan Bremer // photo art

Monday, 19 July 2010

Saw the beautiful works of Sebastiaan Bremer over on Grain Edit and they really struck a chord with me. Might be because, spookily enough, they look like they could be photos snapped straight from my childhood photo albums in Switzerland (the lady even looks a little like my mum did) or just because they are covered in brilliant colours?! Either way, these look like little beams of happiness to me. (See more here if you need more cheering up)

Mr Yen // Geometric Papercuts Book

Friday, 16 July 2010

Mr YEn 2

Mr Yen is very talented with paper and blade. I have admired his work for awhile now and have just spotted this Geometric Papercuts book in his little shop. If the colourful pages weren't enough on their own... the pages are dressed up with an ornate cut pattern too... even the shadows are perfect!

Dumplings, Oh how I love thee!

Thursday, 15 July 2010

Working from home is such a treat. Not only can you play loud music and go barefoot all day long... but little lunchings are much more like rituals! I wonder if I could ever possibly eat too many dumplings?

Sanna Annukka // stationery and more

Tuesday, 13 July 2010

SANNAHOME

I first saw Sanna's stationary over at online stationery shop Nineteen seventy three and fell in love with the shimmer of gold and silver in her designs. The prints are everything I love about Scandinavian design and so was no surprise to find out she is actually half finnish and very inspired by Lapland!

If the cards weren't stunning enough I then found her design work for Marimekko (the dream project!) which is equally as beautiful.

And even more spectacular is seeing the screenprinting of it inside the Marimekko factory... how can they even manage to make industry look incredible?! My heart sobs a little at the sight!

TMOD scratchie cards

Tuesday, 6 July 2010

A few weeks ago I saw TMOD speaking at the Creative Sydney series of panels. They talked about their process of beginning by designing interactive jewellery and then accidentally getting into stationery after sending out a scratchie invitation out for one of their jewellery launches. I love the idea and even more so hearing how they became so successful for their cards completely by chance!

nudiesI was lucky enough to find some treasure's in my mailbox from their lovely creators Milenka and Georgie last week. Aren't they the cutest suprises? I love the whale... so much so I am not sure that I can ever bring myself to give it away!

Home Sweet Lil Home

Sunday, 4 July 2010

For awhile now I've been meaning to put up a few peeks of our new(ish) abode. I'd forgotton quite how long it takes to make a place feel your own and there are still definately some bits that are not quite yet ours yet but it's on it's way I think! One of my favourite bits of our building are the mailboxes. I couldn't help but beautify ours with a letterpressed tag from Bespoke Press. Am certain the other ones have mailbox envy because of it!

P1010022My other favourite nook is the little kitchen. How great is that old oven? I am sure it must have belonged to a cooking extraordinaire in the 50's!

The rest is getting there... will update again soon hopefully (that will stop me being lazy too)!

Package Project treats

Friday, 2 July 2010

I received the most delightful little parcel I ever did see in the post the other day. It was part of the package project (I send a package and the other person sends a package too) I was lucky enough to be paired up with the very creative and talented Louise of Super Duper Things. She makes prints and the cutest and most unique of jewels... aren't the lil moustaches adorable?! You can buy her treats here too. Thankyou Louise... I feel most spoilt!

Louise also took some photos of the parcel I sent her...

Mypackage - photos by louise

I had such fun making it and there is something pretty special about a stranger (though not stranger anymore) opening it all up on the other side of the world. See more images from the package project here and keep yourself posted for the next one... long live happy post boxes!!
