ANONthology

Tuesday 23 June 2009

Picked up this good-lookin (& free) literary magazine in our local bookshop yesterday. It turns out it is produced by the 4th Estate publishing house and is full of short stories by Pulitzer writers, Booker nominees, Orange winners and other such esteemed authors... only all the stories are written anonymously... the idea being that the authors name doesn't affect the way you read the story. It's an interesting idea (and very clever marketing!)
Click on the images for a closer look at the words...

If you enter the competition to guess which author wrote which story, you can win one of their limited edition (25th anniversary) books. Each cover doubles as a poster which is a great gimmick... & I do so love those kind of things!

{1} A year of Magical thinking, Joan Didion {2} The Shipping News, Annie Proulx {3} The Corrections, Jonathan Franzen {4} The Diving-Bell and the Butterfly, Jean-Dominique Bauby {5} Half of the yellow sun, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

  1. I am fascinated by the ANONthology experiment and wish them luck. Please note the complementary experiment that has been conducted along these lines since 2001, i.e NEMONYMOUS.
