Animal Antics Illustrated // Helen Dardik

I instantly fell in love with these prints by Canadian illustrator, Helen Dardik. The above one especially for obvious reasons. With my little man, Leo, most definitely being the king of our circus, this feels like it was made for our family! In fact that girl reminds me of myself somewhat*... running on colourful balls and balancing things on my head to make for a contented little cub.

*I guess that makes that dear little monkey riding a bike my dearest husband then?! ahh, innt he cute! 





Helen's pattern designs are pretty gosh darn adorable too if you want to go and take a peek at her website - there are SO many!

Marimekko comes to Sydney

So, the big and super exciting news for this week is that Marimekko is opening in Sydney this Wednesday (at 66, King st to be precise) Helloooo big bold colourful fabrics and fabulously decadent homewares and dresses. Hellooo empty bank account (uh oh!)



I've posted before about Sanna Annukka's designs for Marimekko but this new fabric design I spotted this week was worth mentioning again. Those colours, ahhh... a seamless landscape that is so very remnicent of snowy fields but without so much as a smidge of white anywhere to be seen. Fabulous non?!

Darling Clementine // The new harvest

Loving the new Harvest range from the Darling company, Darling Clementine. They have even made their own tea! Looks delicious if the box is anything to go by.



The folk and flora colours too are quite delicious...



Their Tumblr is full of other found treasures too... I just now got abit lost in that lovely forest... for an hour... oops!

p.s. Did I get away without mentioning how long it's been between posts? Thing is, I have found I was not built to be a juggler (or maybe only a juggler of a couple of balls at once) I'm hoping however that I'll get better at the juggling, not worse. Don't give up on me... not yet anyway!

Paper Lanterns

I posted a few years ago about Jurianne Matter's gorgeous paper products here and now theres a whole new range of lanterns to love. Gorgeously dutch in aesthetic... earthy colours and little glowing trees... so cute! You can buy them in 3 packs here

Yulia Brodskaya does emotion

Unless you've been hiding under a sheet of paper for the last few years you've most probably seen Yulia Brodskaya's incredible paper work around the place. I've always been an admirer of how she took a relatively nanna like artform of quilling to a whole new and exciting level.



Yulia wanted to raise the profile of paper craft even further to show it's ability to "convey meanings and emotion" This new artwork below is absolutely incredible both in size and in doing everything else she was seeking to do. It blew a little bit of my mind stumbling on it! Go here for a look at the work in process and more explanation.

Folk Art flutters

I have just added these two books to my hopeful book splurge wishlist... Naive: Modernism and Folklore in Contemporary Graphic Design and Olle Eksell: Swedish Graphic Designer. I'm not sure what Naive art but its pages look full of glorious patterns and colours and Swedish designer Olle Eksell is great so that's bound to be a treasure.

I've been drawn to a few things just this week that remind me of these books - funny how that happens. First up I stumbled on the great work of Paul Ibou via the Present and Correct twitter page. His stage name if you like, means owl in french so they are his thing... and such lovely little ones they are! He worked in the 60's but his designs still look so interesting and fresh don't you think? You can read and see more about him over on iconofgraphics.

Then in a newsletter from Boxbird gallery I discovered the work of New Zealand artist Ellen Giggenbach. Though a modern artist, her work feels like a treat from those yonder years also. She uses hand coloured papers all cut and collaged... so lovely!

So my eyes are open wide and am hoping to add to this mini collection... I just can't help but feel happy looking at them!
