Paper-crafted Gems // Lydia Kasumi Shirreff

The new issue of Uppercase magazine caught my eye this month (as it tends to each issue in fact) primarily because the cover features some pretty stunning paper crafted gems. On further note I discovered a talent I hadn't know before... Lydia Kasumi Shirreff. Such beautiful work so steeped in nature (she has quite a thing for gems, fruit and minerals it seems) and so vivid in colour. I'm slightly in love with that pineapple. Is that wierd of me?

NSS fever // Uppercase Stationery Guide

If you love stationery, wish that you were going to the National Stationery Show or even (lucky duckies) are going to go, then you need to read the Uppercase Magazine Stationery Guide. It's available as a digital file and contains loads of good stuff - profiles of 50 companies, q&a's for those interested in getting into the business and other excerpts from their latest magazine (which is ace in its own right btw)

Wrap magazine

A magazine that doubles as beautiful illustrated wrapping paper is a genius idea & exactly what UK magazine, Wrap is all about! No staples. No stitches. It's a collection of A2 illustrations and designs to wrap with and their equally worthy interviews to absorb in the process. Issue 2 is all about animals and creatures.

Anthology Magazine // Promotion video

I may be a little slow to discover this but it's so brilliant I had to include it here. Its the new promotion video (involving the very talented Meg Ilasco) for Anthology magazine. It takes the stop motion movie wonder to a whole new level!



The magazine too is looking so gorgeous. While it's more about interiors than print design, it's so nice to see the crossover of disciplines into peoples living spaces... here are a few sneak peek pages from issue one:

Stella Magazine

This beautiful bi-annual magazine is fresh out of Denmark... it is all about talented ladies and looks a treat. I am in love with that curly heading font. Anyone know what it is? See more of the first issue here

+ A winner at the recent D&AD Awards in London, Apartmento magazine out of Milan is a more realistic approach to an interior design magazine, showcasing fantastically cluttered living spaces and stylised mess. A breath of fresh air for the anti-minimalist anarchist.

+ In our continuing series 'OK let's see if you can do that on an iPad'. Great to see the new issue of Mono Kultur taking scratch 'n' sniff stickers one step further and impregnating their pages with 12 different scents!

Papier mache magazine

Found this super cute online childrens magazine the other day. It's full of fairytale type handmade wonders and with the most adorable photography and creative shoots. How fun it looks to be a kid in these worlds! There are 3 issues already out and it's released 4 times a year. Go see for your self...

Guest Post > Magazine Monday

I'm really excited that my dearest friend and  Moon Rocks magazine editor, JG is going to be sharing his magazine discoveries on here on a monday-type basis. Hope you like it too (& please be nice to him!)...

+ Its nice to see magazines using different printing techniques, especially ones usually reserved for lottery scratch cards. The current issue of UK Wired uses grey scratch-off ink, combined with a stunning cover design. (more via Magculture)

+ 48 hour magazine is exactly what it sounds like. Global conrtibutors produce a printed magazine over the weekend - simple. A great project and a cool documentary about it online.



+ A bit of nostalgia in with modern stuff. The Face magazine would be 30 this month, if it was still alive *sniff sniff*. You can see all the covers on this flickr group. A few of my favourites below...

Moon Rocks Magazine // Issue 5

hooray... another issue of Moon rocks entered the world today! This time it is the Sea issue - a salty beaker full of short fiction, illustration and stunning photography. Features an interview with the not-so-spritely marathon river swimmer Martin Strel who recently swam the amazon in 90 days with no nets and only his son in a little dingy alongside him! crazy nut-nut!

The moonrocks troupe have outdone themselves with a bigger and better than ever before issue... looking forward to scouring its pages in depth over the weekend... go find it here

Mag Nation arrives in Sydney

Today I was really excited to find out that a wonderful-looking MagNation shop has opened in Newtown, Sydney... can't wait to visit (in fact i think i'd quite like to go and live in it for a few days!!)

Uppercase magazine // Issue 3

Hooray... another fine gem to grace our worlds! I have only just got my mitts on a copy of issue 2 after much looking (Magma has some in London) and now there is a whole new issue out to be excited about! (see the full preview here) Contains: an interview with Lab Partners, life on a boat, the lovely Genine Zlatkis's house, Album art and loads of other goodies!

Colouring-in for grown ups!

Following on from the previous print of the day found these in Yael Fran's shop also... beautiful colouring-in books (produced monthly) by a talented troop of etsy illustrators... get the pencils out and go sit in the corner... the child inside wants to colour!!
(strangely enough... just found a givaway on pikaland for the most recent of these... quick, go and comment over there to win one)

Uppercase magazine > postal participation

I love that on the Uppercase magazine site there are ways to contribute and become a part of it (and it's a brilliant mag at that). This one about sending in intriguing mail is an especially good one... and good incentive to get the postal brain juices flowing!

Is it creative? Is it curious? We'd like to see it! Mail us postcards, letters, artwork, trinkets, photos, found objects... The most interesting things will be featured in the magazine and online. (Sorry, items will not be returned.)

Moon Rocks Magazine // Issue 4

The new issue of Moon Rocks Magazine has hit the interweb and I was lucky enough to be included in amongst some other very talented folk!! Beginning as a brighton based printed zine, the move to web has enabled Moon Rocks to spread its geographical wings. Their strapline 'no agenda, no adverts, no cost, no colour' says it all really - begun quite simply to encourage and spread creativity as far afield as possible...

This is the first issue solely published online (at the touch of a download button) and its a damn good un too!! Contains an interview with Robert Sabbag (author of Snowblind) aswell as a bucket of wierd and wonderful fiction, photography and illustration.

Instructions: Look, download and carry around in pocket until you feel like being entertained!

It's Nice That // Issue 2

It's nice that is a fantastic website that seeks out out cutting edge creative talent... then came the magazine which was all rather exciting as you can hold the treats in the palm of your hand! Last issue was full of feature articles, interviews, artwork and illustration with amazing people and this next issue sounds nothing less delightful. All in a clean and well designed paper package. You can preorder issue 2 now before it comes out at the beginning of October (issue 1 sold out)
