videre pinhole camera 1

The camera shown here is not infact a plastic fantastic/gun metal old school camera as you may initially think... but a fully functioning camera made completely of cardboard. It is a medium format style pinhole camera. I have only ever taken one photo with a pinhole camera (and it was far from brilliant) but it is probably my proudest photo. No trickery. No machinery. Just the sun, a film and some lucky guesswork. Pinhole photography is the home of the happy accident.

videre pinhole camera 2

This project is by UK designer Kelly Angood and is now on the home straight to be a real life product thanks to many a keen bean camera buff via Kickstarter (such a damn tooting excellent way to fund an idea!). It has been designed, screenprinted and is soon available for sale as a flatpack shipped right to your door. It's not too late to pick yourself up one of the first ones by pledging 30 GB squids here.

A few fabulous looking photos I found via this pinhole flickr group.

Origrami_RetroPrint5

I am an instagram addict/stalker. I love looking into everyone elses worlds and days in picture form. Most of my own snaps are fairly unartistic (but very cute!) photos of my very little model cub (he's pretty irresistible)

This little Origrami idea, is such a great little package. Complete with location map on the backs, the photos are converted into polaroid sized treasures for the keeping. It would also make for a great treasure hunt mystery tour for someone special!

Sophie Delaporte for Comme Des Garçons

Tuesday, 26 March 2013

sophie-delaporte-comme-des-garcons-idomenee-1

Amazing photographs by amazing photographer Sophie Delaporte for the latest Comme Des Garçons / Idoménée fashion book. She is famous for her use of colour and dramatic effect and these certainly do catch my colourful eye. Alice in Wonderland meets urban origami. Bleak house meets paper mill. (I believe it's actually made from felt, but I'm going to pretend it's paper because that makes me happiest. I hope you don't mind, even though its factually incorrect!)

Found via Trendland (see more images of Delaporte's work here and here too)

Julian-Bialowas-Time-Spent-Wasted

If you're in need of a pep talk with yourself then go have a flick(r!) through this gorgeous and inspiring 365 day project by Julian Bialowas. This one above feels particularly apt for me at the moment. I sometimes find myself feeling frustrated and a little guilty that I've achieved nothing in a day... so it's good to remind myself that watching, playing with and helping a little human grow day by day is not a waste of time at all. hip hip hooray. pep talk sucess!

CraftCovers_horiz

Another book I was lucky enough to work on last year (along with the lovely folks at Rotovision) is now out!! Hooray!! The Crafters Guide to Taking Great Photos, written by the very talented Heidi Adnum, is full of the most beautiful photographs and crafts products you'll see. Not to mention loads of interviews and great photography tips.

The covers left to right: Search Press in UKMurdoch books in Australia & Interweave in US
NB. I did not design all the above covers - only the internals below and the styling of the Yellow Murdoch cover

It was such a pleasure to design the internals of this book as the content is so fabulous (I read it cover to cover as I was going through) I highly recommend getting yourself a copy if you like craft or photography or even better, both!

The book is available to buy here in the US, here in the UK and here in Australia

Milas-daydreams-07

I saw Adele Enerson's magical photos of her daughter Mila's sleeping worlds some time ago and thought they were fantastic then... but now I'm looking at them with a whole new set of eyes. Am thinking this might become my new hobby in a few months?! (I hope this little lady dreams as big as these worlds that her mum makes for her too)

NEW-BOND-STREET

If you haven't already seen Matt Stuarts street photography then I highly recommend spending some time looking through his website. His photographs are clever and insightful and will make you smile for certain. What a couple of curious eyes he has!

SOHO

His advice to other photographers is great
"Buy a good pair of comfortable shoes, have a camera around your neck at all times, keep your elbows in, be patient, optimistic and don’t forget to smile."

Photography // Paul Octavious

Thursday, 27 January 2011

I posted about this Kite Hill photograph by Paul Octavious awhile back now. I love the hill series & the video of snow day (all those *splats* at the bottom of the hill. he he)...

But today have been admiring some of his other work too. I'm abit in love with the books series. Such a simple idea but shot so beautifully. And those colours and covers... coming from someone with a colour coded bookshelf, they're just heavenly to look at!

Sebastiaan Bremer // photo art

Monday, 19 July 2010

Saw the beautiful works of Sebastiaan Bremer over on Grain Edit and they really struck a chord with me. Might be because, spookily enough, they look like they could be photos snapped straight from my childhood photo albums in Switzerland (the lady even looks a little like my mum did) or just because they are covered in brilliant colours?! Either way, these look like little beams of happiness to me. (See more here if you need more cheering up)
