Song Reader // Jessica Hische and Hambeck

Monday, 11 February 2013

A McSweeneys book, lettering by Jessica Hische, music by Beck and a framed papercut artwork - a match made in heaven I think, yes!

This cover artwork was completed digitally by Jessica Hische for Becks new experimental album that is sold in the form of a book of sheet music (to be reinterpreted by his musician fans)

Beautiful as the cover is, it's journey didn't stop there... going on to even more amazing things. Beck fan (and clearly a very talented soul too) has turned it into a marvel of papercutting and quilling and framed it. Such an unlikely collaboration, delicate procedure and such a stunning outcome - feels sort of fairytale like in a way & makes a nerd like me a little dizzy!

Penguin Drop Caps // Jessica Hische

Monday, 21 January 2013

Admittedly, I'm abit late in putting these books up here but given my penchant for both book design and lettering it would be something of a crime to not showcase them so better late than never it is!

Penguin drop caps is series of 26 books designed in collaboration with lettering superstar Jessica Hische. They were designed to be beautiful objects to be kept and cherished. As a book designer and paper nerd, I love this idea. Though I love the technology as well (it would be silly not to) I will shed more than a tear if real paper books dimish entirely. These are living proof of their preciousness, right?!

An animalian alphabet // Wee Alphas

I'm sure if this gorgeous looking app had been around when I was growing up, I would have learnt my alphabet in half the time! Called Wee alphas (and created by Wee Society), this interactive and divinely illustrated alphabet teaches you in each instance to find the letters within an animal and then to explore each illustration for its secret power (ie. hidden animation) At the end you can pick your very favourite letter and perfect your tracing skills. Never too old for abit of alpha practice right?!

The accompanying giant sized screenprint and smaller print are quite divine too (after all things are always better on paper really aren't they!? hehe)

We-love-typography

I've been looking at lots of incredible lettering over the past couple of weeks for a really exciting project I'm working on (more details will be revealed down the line) This quote pretty much sums everything up in my world at the moment. So many new and exciting challenges over in the ocean... time for a swim I say!

Package Project treats

Friday, 2 July 2010

I received the most delightful little parcel I ever did see in the post the other day. It was part of the package project (I send a package and the other person sends a package too) I was lucky enough to be paired up with the very creative and talented Louise of Super Duper Things. She makes prints and the cutest and most unique of jewels... aren't the lil moustaches adorable?! You can buy her treats here too. Thankyou Louise... I feel most spoilt!

Louise also took some photos of the parcel I sent her...

I had such fun making it and there is something pretty special about a stranger (though not stranger anymore) opening it all up on the other side of the world. See more images from the package project here and keep yourself posted for the next one... long live happy post boxes!!
