An Exquisite Book Is Here!
Tuesday 31 August 2010
Exciting to see today (via Julia Rothman's book by its cover) that the The Exquisite Book: 100 Artists Play a Collaborative Game, that tickled my tastebuds way back here... is now on sale!! It looks amazing all accordian-like and am certain it depicts some horizons you've never even imagined before. It's going on the list for sure!
Find out more about the process and artists involved on the official website here

+ Some great tumblr images over at Yellowtrace - great stripes, short story poster and these glowing bottles by Johnny Miller above

Enormous Champion-ing
Wednesday 25 August 2010
There were two great finds about the wonderful world of stationery designers, Enormous Champion today...
First was this great studio tour over at Grain Edit. I think if my studio looked this good I would sleep under my desk every night!
And second of all, was very excited to find that Chronicle books has released a postcard book of their prints (my how i love a good postcard book... not to tear them out of course, just to admire!)

Animal Prints

Sharon Montrose takes amazing photos of creatures great and small... she is now selling prints (for as low as $25) of these beauties in The Animal Print Shop... beautiful!!! The only trouble is that they would get lonely if I was to only get one... uh oh!
Thought of the day
Friday 20 August 2010
Just tripped over a great blog called Fancy Type.... full of wonderful types (& not only for typo nerds either) Among other great things was this poster series by a clever fellow by the name of T.M.Addison.
Books of Japanese wonder
Thursday 19 August 2010
OH japan... how I love thee! This great new book over at Upon a Fold has just been added to my virtual shopping basket... all about gift wrapping with such elegance. I wonder if my big fingers could ever do such delicate creations?
This book of paper things is also a wonder I've had my eye on for some time

Bank advertisements. Beautiful?
Wednesday 18 August 2010
A very clever friend, Becky, just finished making this advertisement. I love the little story and there are so many beautiful frames that I had to put up a few... you'd never guess it was a bank advert! (doubley nice to see such an organic illustration style for a big corporation too)
On the subject of bank advertisements... spotted this Swiss Co-op one on twitter today aswell (via Upon a Fold)... also truly beautiful and completely un-banklike! (The amazing origami is helped considerably by the fact that the Swiss currency is so gorgeous) Since when have banks been so artistic?

Paper pencils // Upon a fold
Wednesday 11 August 2010
A little while ago I ordered a treat from my favourite online shop Upon a Fold. When I opened the package it couldn't have been more exciting! It was wrapped beautifully and came with a couple of these beautiful paper hearts (as well as some extra templates and instructions) They now cover my fridge and make me happy every time i look at them!
Justine has just last week added a new paper treat to her packages... these incredibly lovely pastel pencils (complete with secret storage unit for tictacs). Hmm, just need decide on only one thing to buy now!

A New York that Pops up
This is the cleverest and sweetest of pop-up books by a very talented lady by the name of Daisy Lew... not only does it reveal some great NY icons but side profile it shows a whole cityscape. So so clever!

All my friends are dead
Tuesday 10 August 2010
This dear little book nearly made me cry while giggling this morning. That little sad dinosaur is just the cutest and darkest little creature!
Some other pages include...
Some other pages include...
If you're a pirate, all of your friends have scurvy. If you're a tree, all of your friends are end tables. From the sock whose only friends have gone missing to the houseplant whose friends are being slowly killed by irresponsible plant owners (like you).(I can only imagine how sad they all must look... sniff sniff)
A week in Twitterland
Friday 6 August 2010
+ A few great new collages by Lilliana, above, here and here (via lilliannap)
+ Very funny lil Honda Jazz advert - Nathan Barley king of hipsters would be proud! (via designvagabond)
+ Amazingly clever stop motion animation by Andy Kennedy. Created by animating clay on glass (via juliarothman)
+ Cute and insightful drawings by Christoph Niemann as a visual diary documenting flight from NY to Berlin via London (via juliarothman)
+ A little movie of a digital pianola... not quite as fun as the real thing but pretty beautiful to watch and very clever! (via uponafold)
Have a most lovely weekend y'all!
Maps glorious maps // These are the things
I've always wanted to own a beautiful big map but have never found one that quite hit the spot... until today. This is just the loveliest of prints from Ohio based company 'These are the Things'. It's screenprinted in 4 colours and what a great colour combo it is too. Funnily enough it turns out their little company/shop began as a result of them being on a map hunt and finding nothing either... so designing their own instead. What clever sticks!
& this lil letterpress one is a winner too

The great ampersand hunt
Wednesday 4 August 2010
For a couple of weeks now I have been searching for the perfect ampersand to put to good use... and then I found this amazing little tumblr site that surely must have been made to help me in my quest?! An ampersand for every single day of the year.
& for each lovely curvaceous creature there is a link to the font (and where to buy it) How great is that?!(Mon August 2nd - Calibri; Sat July 17th - Spire; Sat July 10th - Knockout; Sat 3rd July - History; Sat 22nd May - The Sans)
Whoever is responsible for this wonderful creation, I am eternally grateful!
Doily decorations
Tuesday 3 August 2010
Papermash is a wonderful little online stationery shop based in the UK. They are responsible for lending the oldy-worldy doily a breath of new life. Not only can you buy a range from cute mini ones to delicate ornate ones in their shop but there are also a couple of tutorials to put them to perfect use.
This adorable Cocktail parasol tutorial can be found here
& the Sweet Straws project can be downloaded here
Paper Bags by SIWA
These humble paper bags are like no other... they are water resistant and won't break when full of oranges! They are made by Japanese company SIWA from a material called 'Soft Naoron'. It's a wood pulp and polyolefin paper using japanese washi-suki methods. Such simple looking little things but so clever. Could only be from Japan (another reason to add to my 'pro's about going to Japan' list - which is a long list btw) They also make other beauties from this magic material...
